kidzThere are many parks including Hagley Park and the Botanic Gardens in the city centre where kids can feed the ducks and there is play equipment and a paddling pool (in summer). Parents can sit back, relax and watch the children play.

Nearby in the Canterbury Museum there is a natural history centre for children with many weird and wonderful things to for them explore.

Skateboard at Washington Way Reserve, corner of  Morehouse Avenue and Barbadoes Street.

Swim sunbathe, or walk at Brighton, Sumner and Taylor's Mistake beaches. Walk the Port Hills.

The International Antarctic Centre

See Antarctica recreated, experience the  atmosphere and environment of Antarctica. This is as close as it is possible to get to the frozen continent and an interactive adventure for the whole family.

Ferrymead Heritage Park - open
On weekends and public holidays you can ride the old tram cars and other times you can rediscover the way things were. How did your great grandmother do her backing, or get the the laundry done? A complete Edwardian township, model railway, hall of wheels.
Just 15 mins by car from Christchurch city centre.

Orana Wildlife Park  - 
New Zealand’s largest wildlife and conservation centre and only open range zoo. Visitors can walk through the Park and/or ride on the complimentary Safari Shuttle, driven by a wildlife expert who provides a commentary. Alternatively, visitors may wish to participate in daily, guided, walkabout tours.

Animals include:
There are over 400 animals including Meerkats, Porcupines & Otters, NZ Native Birds, Spider Monkeys, Black & White Lemurs, Lions, Giraffes, White Rhinoceros, Cheetah and African Wild Dogs.

The Park is located on Mcleans Island about ten minutes drive north of Christchurch International Airport and 25 minutes drive from the city centre.
