21st Century Work and Income

A new paradigm for living

In our modern world governed by patriarchal capitalism, we compete to work at jobs that ostensibly pay higher wages yet many of those jobs contribute to environmental destruction and the dispossession of populations.

Take the steel industry, iron ore is extracted from lands from which the indigenous populations have been evicted, transported across oceans to be smelted to create products. The original purpose was to facilitate greater human well-being but that has now been corrupted into greater shareholder profits and the end products have an increasingly short term usable life.

There was a time when things were made to last, electric cars and scooters appeared 100 years ago to be pushed out of existence by

Never Trust a Lawyer

A cautionary tale from the case files

How does an attorney sleep? Well, first he lies on one side, then he lies on the other and now from humour to fact: Dear Sir or Mdm, Many years ago I was happy with your service and more recently when I rang asking if you held any documentation in regards to my estate and for information in regard to hiring your service, the lady who identified herself immediately took control of the conversation and began asking questions in relation to making the document.

I thought at the time it was unnecessary and I had some difficulty getting a word in edgewise to actually ask what I really wanted to know which was

East vs West

Spiritual truth in the East and the lack there of in the West

Gaia as the world tree by Alex GrayThe tree of life giving life – East but being destroyed by human greed, the West

The philosophical and lifestyle differences between East and West are apparent particularly when travelling from any western country to India. It is such a crazy chaotic place and yet there is something wonderful and transcendent in India not in addition to the resplendent colours and the joy on people’s faces.

I’ve written several posts on the subject and now thanks to a line by Chaman Lal, the penny has finally dropped in regard to what I’m attempting to

Dealing to Our Trash

An element destroying our habitat

This subject is a no-brainer. If we are going to want stuff, it should do what we want and last a lifetime. If we think of our most basic requirements for life the land we depend on for growing our food should be kept in pristine condition yet every year we are dumping millions of tons of harmful chemicals into our soils for short-term increased production and ease of management.

Our cell phones and electronic devices are one of the most contentious issues because the manufacturers what you to buy a new device every year and discard the old which has a finite life. This was exacerbated by Apple who were accused of rolling

Partner Yoga

Moving from Doing together to Being together

Partner yoga has been termed AcroYoga. There are many aspects and methodologies of which the most common is supporting and being supported in the performance of yoga asana. Yet it can also involve meditation and non-contact activities. But all aspects of acroyoga involve body to body and mind to mind communication at a subtle level beyond everyday consciousness.

By practising asana together as for instance in this right image, one develops trust and confidence in one’s partner which in turn fosters a better relationship. Where partners are of similar stature and flexibility, the practice is generally more balanced but when one is more supple, more stronger or of a different stature, some of

Sufi's are Not Necessarily Peaceful

Debunking the myth; Sufi’s can be terrorists

Jalaluddin Rumi said; “I looked for God. I went to a temple, and I didn’t find him there. Then I went to a church, and I didn’t find him there. And then I went to a mosque, and I didn’t find him there. And then finally I looked in my heart, and there he was.”

He again said; “A true Lover doesn’t follow any one religion, be sure of that. Since in the religion of Love, there is no irreverence or faith. When in Love, body, mind, heart and soul don’t even exist. Become this, fall in Love, and you will not be separated again.”

So we see Jalaluddin Rumi had his own

A History of Sex

And the evolution of the human condition

For many people, sex is something of a mystery, an obsession, highly pleasurable but also highly regulated. Some say that sex is a part of our primal nature and akin to the essence of life itself in part because every second, millions of cells are being born within our bodies.

Sex is elemental to life without which we would not exist. We turn to sex in the desire to breed, sharing joys, relieving sorrows and despite all the different moral codes around the world, and all ways of relating over our history, sex is not well understood and often badly performed.

Sex is one of the most obvious features of our dualistic world

Oh So Liberal

But what is liberal?

The dictionary says that the liberals are those willing to respect or accept behaviour or opinions different from one’s own; to be open to new ideas concerned with broadening general knowledge and experience as opposed to technical or professional training.

According to Wiki, Liberalism is a political philosophy or world view founded on ideas of liberty and equality. Liberals espouse a wide array of views depending on their understanding of these principles, but generally they support ideas and programmes such as freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of religion, free markets, civil rights, democratic societies, secular governments, gender equality, and international cooperation.

According to Student News Daily, Liberals believe

Politicking

And why things are the way they are

Most of us are familiar with ideas like politicians are the most untrustworthy species and that our world is in a mess due to their incompetence. But to understand why the world is the way it is and the failure of your political systems, we need to step back and summarise the evolutionary process that brought us to this point.

It’s fairly well known that we evolved from hunter gatherer tribes where sometimes one person was the leader and sometimes decision-making was more democratic. There is no one fits all description but things changed more quickly with the advent of agriculture and perhaps more importantly, the use of money and the development

Living with Chronic Disease

What doctors don’t tell you

When you are diagnosed with a Chronic Illness, doctors should tell you the symptoms, the side effects, how it can progressively get worse, what treatment is available and maybe they’ll even suggest what to eat, but what they don’t tell you while you’re sitting across from them is how hard the rest of your life suddenly becomes.

They don’t tell you all your favourite hobbies that required a lot of energy might as well be tossed to the side. They don’t tell you all your life goals and dreams get jumbled up and switched around and some even need to be put on the back burners until you’ve found a way to manage your symptoms.
