Why Hinduism?

The world’s oldest surviving way of life!

Hinduism as it is called is not a belief system but a science of living. Having stood the test of time over many thousands of years having outlived all civilisations, it continues to grow, flourish and evolve.

The word Hinduism correctly stated is Sanatana Dharma meaning the ‘Eternal Way’ or the scientific method by which humanity may survive and thrive into eternity. In contrast our experts are saying that humanity is on the verge of extinction because we choose to act on beliefs instead of knowledge.

That Hinduism is referred to as a religion and Hindu’s as followers of Hinduism is a convenience of language and cultural understanding. Here are some reasons why

What is The Soul?

And the nature of being human

Meditation by Alex Gray

For many people, this question is irrelevant to their lives as they have in a way made peace with their suffering and are content to live in relative darkness. In contrast, those who give thought and attention to this question find that they can transcend their suffering, identify themselves as being human and unlocking the mysteries of the universe.

Before plunging into an attempted definition let us remember that we live within a realm of existence whose boundaries are incalculable. We are dealing here with cosmology as well as metaphysics and like the universe itself, ideas that are so immensely huge few people attempt them.

Asking such a

Lucifer

The Christian villain people are taught to fear and loathe

Christianity since its inception has been attempting to drive a wedge between positive and negative, darkness and light which has led to the science of separation as a means of knowing life. This has been an absolute failure because once something is dissected, it ceases to be and therefore cannot be known.

Over a period of several thousand years, the ideas that gave rise to Christianity were distorted from the original Hindu understanding that we live in a dualistic universe and we named these dualities as darkness and light, positive and negative, feminine and masculine. As the Hindu understanding of life travelled westward, the ideas were distorted and in

Patriarchy versus Matriarchy

Patriarchy represents the root of human failure. Matriarchy represents an eternal possibility

Please do not be misled into thinking of matriarchy in terms of modern feminism, this is more to do with women adopting a patriarchal attitude and going to war with men. The matriarch in all societies, insect, animal and human leads her species, community or society on a path of sustainability for long-term survival. In other words she wants to create a comfortable nest, ensure a future for future generations and pass on the wisdom required to ensure continuity.

Patriarchy on the other hand is more egotistical and selfish. Men want to compete, to be heroes and lord over things with very little concern for their survival unless

The Shiva Lingam

The Presence of Shiva and a universal centre

The Shiva Lingam has been in common use for many thousands of years in parts of Europe, across Asia and even some places in the Americas. The lingam at Mecca is hidden away within that big black box and the Christians have replaced theirs with a cross.

Today the lingam is mostly found in Shiva Temples although a great many remain carved into the beds of rivers across Southeast Asia to bless the water that so many depend on for life.

The Shiva lingam is a round, elliptical, iconic image that most often sits on a circular base or peetham. Most commonly made of stone, Shiva Linga can also be composed

Om Mani Padme Hum

Praise to the Jewel in the Lotus – ॐ मणिपद्मे हूँ

Yeshe Tsogyal

Mantras in another language represent a challenge for many people if they are not clear on the meaning yet arriving at a meaning can be something of a challenge. When I was first introduced to this mantra it was something new age and sweet, and for some people around me who had distanced themselves from Western society, it represented a point of difference and that they were members of the club.

The origins of the mantra Om Mani Padme Hum is associated with Avalokiteshvara or Chenrezig, the bodhisattva of compassion.

For many years I had the idea that when reciting this mantra

Of Gods and Goddesses

In search of the elemental human

Iconography, the use of humanlike images representing aspects of the have been in use and venerated for many millennia and we are all familiar with this phenomenon regardless of birth or belief. We know from archaeological discoveries that before the development of belief systems most of these deities were depicted naked and as population increased, and beliefs developed, they became increasingly better clothed.

People continue to ask the reason why and many presume to know the answer is becoming more popularised idea that all these early deities because the statues are naked is that it was the earliest form of pornography. This idea has perverted most of the westernised thinking about the deities within

Divided we Fall - United we Stand

Negotiating life and discovering Dharma

By Udaya Charan Shrestha

“Spirit is one, although variety exists, its oneness is found within the light of pure consciousness. Due to misuse of independence the soul separates from this light and descends to this realm, the world where spirit mixes with matter, a world of duality. Sanskrit language encapsulates this “separation from the light” in the words “dvi” and “dva” meaning “two”. “Vi” expresses “separation” and “D” expresses “light” combined they produce “dvi” whose primordial meaning is to be “separated ( vi ) from the light ( d )”.” ~ James Robinson Cooper

This adage ‘United we stand, divided we fall’ is generally
