Growing Up

An art few truly accomplish

What does it mean to grow up? It means to become a responsible human being, and this is a subject rarely discussed and what is spoken of more commonly is that we become obedient citizens. Yet before we can become a citizen and carry out any civic duty, we need to become complete human beings.

It is from our incompleteness and failure to become human that we are engaged in so much conflict, that we are destroying our environment and living factionalised lives. If we were mature and responsible human beings we would coexist peaceably with each other and be proper custodians of our planetary environment.

By being grown up I mean that one has

The Story of Omar

One man begins a global transformation

Young Omar was said to have been something of a precocious child yet he was also uncannily charming and got away with things that other children may have earned some reprimand. But children were loved because their parents saw them as an investment towards an unforeseeable future.

The village where young Omar lived was inconspicuous, the wall of woven twigs that kept lions and other creatures out of the village at night was in the process of being replaced with a much more solid mud brick wall. Omar and the other boys his age helped their elders as they were capable although much of the time they played as they watched.

The village was

Education Fails

When fictions and beliefs are taught as truths

Most parents want their children to become successful and happy in life, most often with more emphasis on success because they believe that success is the key to happiness. Success as in money is the flag of aspiration and meaning in life that supersedes almost everything else and children today are being driven en-mass towards this ill-defined goal.

Success is a great many things and every individual develops their own interpretation. While the most basic success is to grow into life, reproduce and see one’s children grow into life to the point where one can experience grandchildren represents the greatest universal success because it is biological and represents the natural continuation of

Without blouse – A kick back against colonialism

Whatever country men live in, the majority have a somewhat unhealthy appreciation of the female body because we live in a capitalist and patriarchal society where things are to be possessed. Women for the most part have been chattels in many countries, slaves and baby makers for the men who owned them.

India as a matriarchal civilisation was spared this tradition until midway through the British occupation when they decided that because women in England had no rights, Hindu women should also have no rights. With stroke of a pen they passed a law disinheriting women of their wealth and social status and telling men that they had all the power.

Girls and Men

What a girl has to cope with

Just think, I am a human female and like most probably dumbed down by my education and layered with expectations to make my parents happy by finding a decent sort of man and having children of my own someday.

To be fair or must state that our social and political environment not to mention our ecological environment leave a lot to be desired. The world is not fair or just and yet one is expected to be “a good honest person” while all around you everyone is fighting and cheating. So how do you cope with this and build a life for yourself?

In addition to all of that, there is school to

No Underwear

And should it be a problem?

Some people think that going without underwear is a taboo and an act of indecency, however it’s so easy to forget unless underwear it’s a feature of your outfit. Unless one’s skirt is particularly short and you happen to bend over in someone’s view or sit in view with your legs apart, no one is likely to notice and honestly its nice not to have panty lines and sometimes no lines in your skin at the end of the day.

Going braless in some societies can be more problematic if you have bigger boobs or wear revealing tops but society is moving on and going braless is more socially acceptable. My girlfriends thought I

Dating and Friendship

An essential partnership

While the social norms in some countries prohibit dating and the allowing of young individuals of the opposite sex to spend time together until their marriage is arranged, in most countries young people grow up with the idea and the expectation of finding true love match.

Like all human relationships there are a great many possibilities but perhaps one of the most insidious is the pressure placed on young people to date members of the opposite sex or even the same gender within their particular social group. This expectation and pressure that is generated creates anxiety and suffering in part because there is no clear discussion and in fact, our socialisation process almost prohibits this discussion.

Conversely

The Mini Skirt

A freedom and celebration of legs

Tumblr Image

Way back during the Roman era it was the men who wore miniskirts and because it was colder in Scotland, the Scotsman wore kilts. For the modern woman the age of the miniskirt developed back in the 1950s as a new sense of freedom evolved perhaps echoing the sheer and translucent gowns of the flapper era.

As a baby and as babies still do I was told that when I learned to walk, I had a natural aversion to clothing and mum often told tales of me at bath time running naked and when I learned to dress myself or perhaps I should say and dress myself, I would often

The Price of Progress

Avoidance, destruction and blame

We have come to think of progress as having more comforts, more technology and greater security for our long-term survival. This is what our ancestors worked for and we have led to believe that by following the directions of industrial leaders that our wealth and security are steadily improving. You should be stand back and look critically at this idea there are many flaws.

Progress in the modern sense is all about capitalism and market forces driving inventiveness and productivity. Thanks to our modern communications we can now perceive on a global scale the environmental destruction and increasing scarcity of resources with which to make things or even produce our food. The small lead to dictate
