The US out of bounds

In this morning’s news, it is reported that the USA is sending a contingent of special forces into Syria to support the rebels fighting against President Assad. While the US and UK planned a regime change in Syria and other Middle Eastern countries are perhaps 15 years ago it is only coming to fruition in Syria now. But they underestimated the stubbornness of President Bashir al-Assad and the Syrian people.

President Bashar al-Assad is still the legitimate leader in Syria and before this uprising that was sponsored by the USA and its allies, Syria was a magnificent country, like Iraq before the US led invasion, there was a high degree of social equity and prosperity.

Due to the conflict in the region, Syria is one of the most dangerous countries in the world and visiting opportunities are very limited. One should only visit with a personal invitation and guarantee of safety.

Syria is central to modern world history, modern where you can find the so called ‘dead cities’ of the early Christian era and before some 30-40kms west of Aleppo. Alexander the great left his mark as did the Romans and more recently Lawrence of Arabia.
