Naked Thuth

A moral insight into our suffering

Right from birth we are encouraged to tell the truth even though sometimes we have no idea what it looks like because we are living in a world where the truth is suppressed and the education system along with our politicians and corporate masters feed us so many lies that some don't believe the truth ever existed.

According to a 19th century legend, the Truth and the Lie meet one day.

The Lie says to the Truth: "It's a marvellous day today"!

The Truth looks up to the skies and sighs, for the day was really beautiful. They spend a lot of time together, ultimately arriving beside a well. The Lie tells the Truth: "The water is very nice, let's take a bath together!"

The Truth, once again suspicious, tests the water and discovers that it indeed is very nice. They undress and start bathing. Suddenly, the Lie comes out of the water, puts on (steals) the clothes of the Truth and runs away.

The furious Truth comes out of the well and runs everywhere to find the Lie and to get her clothes back. The World, seeing the Truth naked, turns its gaze away, with contempt and rage.

"All great truths begin as blasphemies" ~ George Bernard Shaw

La verdad saliendo del pozo, by Jean-Léon Gérôme 1896

The poor Truth returns to the well and disappears forever, hiding therein, its shame. Since then, the Lie travels around the world, dressed as the Truth, satisfying its perceived needs of society to satisfy its own desires, because, the World, in any case, harbours no wish at all to meet the naked Truth.

This moral tale well represents the modern world although as a morality story it falls short because in truth there is no shame in our modern world, the lie dominates and truth is confined much like the female breasts in the top image and the shame of the human body just another lie camouflaging the truth.

Of course we must also differentiate between truth and reality, your truth and my truth about the same thing may be completely different yet the underlying reality of the thing is unaffected by our conception. When you and I look at something the colour green for instance, the colour green and even the thing itself we see only in our minds and our consensus is due to our education and a matter of perspective.

Lies" the new truth
