The process of administration of humanity and world resources

"The penalty for refusing to participate in politics, is that you end up being governed by obnoxious or contemptible people." Plato

As hunter gatherers our ancestors living in small groups developed a simple political system based on communal needs in relation to available food and shelter as the most important elements for their survival. Secondary needs were likely to regulate how people related to each other within the tribe and how they interacted with other tribes while religious rites would have been woven into the political fabric influencing how political decisions were made.

Nothing has changed much in modern history, there is a great ongoing political struggle for power and dominion over the earth and all its inhabitants. The differences between civilisation 20,000 years ago and now is the huge increase in population combined with the leap in technology and communication.

It seems clear that the politics of living today have bought us to a point where self annihilation seems immanent as uncontrolled population growth combined with uncontrolled greed and corruption are destroying our very life support system. At present every country in the world with the exception of Bhutan has a capitalist governance disguised as communism or democracy whereby the ultimate aim of the game is global domination.

For us to survive as a species, there must be a voluntary reform of not only our political systems, but a transformation in the hearts and minds of every citizen.

All our political systems are built on human relationships and the old adage that "if you do for me, I'll do for you" and to a large extent our politics today are games that people play that despite the constitutions and rules of governance, our rulers have so often bent those rules to suit their own agenda.

Holistic Politics

This is an ideology where the earth and all life is sacred which calls for a revolution in the heart of every citizen to give up greed for communal need. This means a step back from the games, this means that capitalism must go and be replaced with universal sharing and a re-evaluation as to our real needs as human beings.

As human beings, we need adequate food and shelter, we need to feel we belong, we need to feel are wanted within our community, we need to have education with free expression to exercise our intelligence and imagination.

Personal needs vs the needs of civilisation:

In listing our basic human needs above, as a civilisation, we need to continue with the physical exploration of our universe as we know the life of our planet is finite and in some far distant time future generations my have to find a new planet to call home.

All parents want their children to grow up in a safe and healthy environment, yet we live in a world at war, a world running out of control due to global warming, yet all parents want their children to be free, happy and able to fulfil their dreams while such idealism is to often the preserve of the very wealthy.

Now is the time to transform our own heart and minds and in the words of the Dalai Lama, practice "universal responsibility with a good heart".

We have a world wide green movement, however it is not enough. What are we going to do?
