Benefits of Going Vegan

Better for your health and the planet

A plant-based diet is increasingly becoming recognized as a healthier alternative to a meat based diet. Vegetarianism is widespread and in recent years veganism has become one of the most popular diets, endorsed by many celebrities and members of the medical community. Going vegan has many benefits for us and our environment.

1. Vegans Live Longer

Scientists have been talking for years about the effects of greenhouse gas emissions on our atmosphere and planet. Now, more than ever, the need to find solutions for these problems has become urgent.

One of the ways in which we can help is by switching to a plant based diet. A study conducted by Oxford Martin School

Vegetarian Diet

Humankind’s natural diet

Everyone has an opinion, but not every opinion is correct. When we look around the world at humanity, those who live longest and remain healthiest all have a very good or semi-vegetarian diet. In Okinawa Japan, life expectancy amongst the older generation is in excess of 100 years because bulk of their diet is fresh vegetables.

It is one of the tragedies of Okinawa that the parents, great-grandparents and great-great-grandparents have to bury their children who are dying because they have embraced the Western high meat, high-fat and highly processed diet that has become so prevalent across the world.

In India and other countries where vegetarianism is prevalent, longevity and good health are considered normal yet in

Residents on the small Japanese island of Okinawa in the Ryukyu archipelago south of mainland Japan live longer on average than many other cultural groups and some say they are the longest lived people with lifespans of 100 – 115 years of age common and many well documented studies have been made to support this claim.

In addition to a longer life, there are fewer incidences of the diseases that plague the Western world such as heart disease, breast cancer, prostate cancer, diabetes and Alzheimer’s. Scientists are so impressed that they generally agree that by adopting an Okinawan style diet, it is possible to retard or

Diet & Lifestyle

Planning for a healthy future

We start our lives in ignorance, and lets face it, many parents are ignorant of what constitutes a good lifestyle, diet and nutrition. That means that as we grow up with a less than ideal diet and lifestyle, we are laying foundations for ill-health and a short life.

As we live our lives in ignorance, it takes some time before some sickness intrudes and reminds us of our mortality. Then we look for a fix, but by then most fixes are best temporary and the only way to make a change permanent is to wake up and make those essential diet and lifestyle changes.

While there are countless diet and weight loss programs,

Milk and Osteoporaosis

Milk Destroys Your Bones From the Inside

Milk and animals as food have been consumed by us for thousands of years. When the livestock are healthy and the people consuming milk and milk products as they have done in India for perhaps tens of thousands of years with the milk is primarily the A2 variety which is further processed before consumption, milk products and the animals that produce them are healthy.

Where we come to the west, the milk is the A1 variety, cows often suffer harsh conditions and a percentage of their diet is made up of agricultural chemicals which is passed on to us through the milk and meat.

In terms of osteoporosis, after

Nuts & Seeds

Essential protein and primary nutrition

Without getting to deep into the word meanings, lets simply use this definition; a nut is the seed of any fruit and a seed is an embryonic plant enclosed in a covering called the seed coat or husk, usually with some stored food. In other words, nuts and seeds carry the fertilised genetic information and nutrition necessary to grow into another plant of its own species.

Seeds include also include grains and they all supply a broad spectrum of essential nutrients necessary for our health and well being. In general, seeds such as wheat provide more carbohydrates whereas beans and nuts provide a higher ratio of protein.

General classifications:

Beans (also known as legumes

Raw Power Diet

The ultimate recovery diet

Joel Wallach and Dr. Esselstyn and many others have proved that changes in diet and nutrition can actually cure diseases. As a result of their advice and other impulses, people have been experimenting with different ways of eating raw food.

Then many people remembered that when we were ill, we were given soups and broths that were filled with nutrition and easy to digests. Many people turn to fruit and vegetable juices as a way of providing the body with essential nutrients, however fruit and vegetable juice without the essential fibre can sometimes do as much harm as good.

Some of the critics of the raw vegetarian diet are that it takes

Sugar a sweet poison

Pure white and deadly

Natural sugar cane

The phrase ‘pure white and deadly’ has been around for a long time and few people seemed to care until it’s too late, but others are awakening and dropping it from their diet.

But why?

We instinctively know that sweet things are safe to eat as in nature sweet foods are safe to eat and mothers may notice that babies will readily eat sweets, but it takes about 15 attempts before the baby will eat savoury foods. This is because we instinctively trust sweet foods, but in nature we eat them with the fibre.

Sugar is a modern food additive that has no nutritional value and is not required for our survival.

The foods we eat

Origin, purpose and value

Foods have sustained not only mankind, but continue to sustain all life on Earth and have done since life began. Our foods are classified by the nutrients that they provide; i.e. pulses, seeds and nuts provide proteins, grains (starches) provide energy while fruits and vegetables provide proteins, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. These foods when eaten in various combinations have different effects.

“Let food be your medicine” ~ Hippocrates.

For any food to be medicine, it needs to fresh and free of introduced toxins such as chemical fertilisers and pesticides. But how much do we know about where our food comes from or what’s in it. When we grow our own, knowing is easy but when

Water

The stuff of life

The water carriers

Most of us appreciate the value of fresh water and without it we could not survive. The entire substance of our bodies is about 70% water, but this is more in babies who are almost 80% water and it decreases to almost 60% in older adults.

It is interesting that the surface area of the earth is also about 70% water and it plays a major role in the metabolism of our planet, but that’s another story.

Water forms part of the chemical substance of all our tissues and even our bones, it supports out health, our lives and plays many roles within our bodies including:

Forming saliva and digestive fluids. It
