Abeera's Short Life

The tragedy of living as an Islamic woman

Abeera’s story reflects the ‘new typical’ for a girl living under Islam. Yet even though her short life was tragic, she knew life and never yielded to blind belief. Most of the world has become familiar with the way that Islamic societies treat their women and the voices of the Mullah’s in Saudi and other Islamic countries claim that women are not humans, but animals to be owned and traded.

Most people have also heard of honour killings and the fact that Muslims are not very big on education. The Islamic scholars protest that if the information is not written into the Koran, the Hadith or the Sira, then it’s not worth

Economics and a Cashless Society

Is money a root of evil?

First, let’s look at origins of money.

Within our earliest cultures, people created things for their personal use as well as for use by the tribe or individuals. Early on in this process, the idea of barter arose allowing people to exchange goods and services in exchange for other goods and services.

There is no doubt that some individuals or even groups of individuals came up with the idea of trade for profit and we know this because traders have been traversing the globe for the past 20,000 years seeking fame and fortune.

Most trade was direct, goods or services for goods or services. With the advent of writing trade began to be

Eight Steps to Happiness

And a solution to end suffering

Master, what is the secret to happiness?””Not to argue with idiots””Master. I disagree that this can be the secret” “Yes, you are right”

There are many benefits to putting the instructions of Langri Tangpa’s “Eight Verses of Training the Mind” into practice. The practice helps us to eliminate the ignorant mind of self-cherishing and self-grasping, the root of all suffering and problems.

It shows us how to transform adverse conditions into the spiritual path, giving us the opportunity to use our daily problems and issues that would normally be obstacles as our actual daily practice so we can make progress in our spiritual practice.

We live in spiritually degenerate times. Fewer people

To Preserve Life - Preserve India

A message to friends of India

Aum Shri Sathguruve Namaha Aum Shri Pritviyai Namaha Aum Adi Yogishwaraya Namaha

Sarasvati by Amit Bhar via arjuna-vallabha

Depending on one’s perception in looking at India today, one may cry for the suffering or laugh because it is all an act, a play of illusion. We must remember that this life is a dream but in the words of my dear Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev and other great yogis, the dream is real.

To understand this leela, this drama, one must either look to the beginning of the nation or to the heart of one’s being. The heart of one’s own being can only be

Osho on Corruption

Corruption is an inevitability in this social structure of ours

One friend has asked, “There is so much corruption, so much bribery, so much favoritism going on in the present capitalism! Do you support this as well? This bribery, this corruption, this favoritism is not because of capitalism. Its causes are entirely different. They have nothing to do with capitalism.

If a country where there is so much poverty can be without corruption, that will be a miracle. That is not possible. Honest people in a place where it is so difficult to survive is a difficult proposition. Yes, a rare honest individual may exist. Some man of real will may exist. But all don’t have that much will power

Time for change

But how to change?

It is all very well and good to poke fun at past and current administrations and institutions, but we must also remember that they too are victims of circumstance. It is well known that suffering stems from ignorance and that suffering perpetuates further suffering.

We need to wise up to the mistakes of the past and yet somehow be compassionate even towards prime ministers who look after their rich mates and impoverish the majority who are largely confused and struggling just to survive.

The real question is how do we extract ourselves from this social and economic quagmire?

Clearly Reaganomics is a disaster and we cannot see New Zealand’s situation as being separate from the world

Our Dark Future

The rise of insanity

Our corporate masters a tightening the screws despite public protest. Here in good old New Zealand, the government continues to sell the people out. They have been slowly but steadily making it easier for international corporations to do as they please and paying lip service to the real needs of the people.

The escalation in house prices is simply part of an international conspiracy by the world’s largest banks providing favours for the executives and return for perks and the surety of good jobs when they leave politics although in this country, politicians continue to receive a substantial salary even when they leave office which is way beyond that of any normal retiree.

Over the past

Need for secular ethics

HH The Dalai Lama says the world needs a global system of secular ethics and I agree

Saying that it’s past time that people stopped relying on religion for their ethical laws, the Dalai Lama has called on the need for humanity to develop a system of secular ethics.

“The reason for this is that there are those who have faith in religions and there are many who don’t,” the Dalai Lama said, adding that even among religious leaders, “there are some who are responsible for injustice, deception, hypocrisy, and exploitation.”

Current education, he said, is almost always geared towards economic development, which “neither helps solve individual mental problems nor society-level problems.”

“Regardless of whether or not one believes in

The five wisdom principals

A simple solution to world conflict

By practising these principles, you will dress yourself in a suit of spiritual armour. Even in the midst of chaos and in the face of evil, your heart will be unsullied, your relationships strong and you will know yourself.

1. Be compassionate: Compassionate in both thought and deed. Learn to recognize that the actions of others is often caused by spiritual pain. Avoid contempt. Avoid those mental judgements we always make of others. Compassion leads to harmony and harmony and balance is the key to inner peace.

2. Be kind: Very simple. In every interaction you have you have an opportunity to add to the sum total of good. No act of kindness or

Politics and holism

There is no holism without freedom

It’s well known that the US military machine rules the world and from their fear they are instituting a global police state. If you’ve not been keeping up with world events, have a listen to this video which is an honest overview of how the human crisis is deepening as Gerald Celente of Trends Research Institute is interviewed by ABC Australia Adelaide on NSA spying, Edward Snowden, the military-industrial complex, and world wars.

Today we live in a world where rules are made by corporate giants out to make a profit and governments are complicit. The result is that we as individuals loose our freedom and free will. We are also loosing our rights
