The religion of peace…?
Islam is believed to have been created by the Prophet Mohammed in the 6th century. It is said that he lived in Mecca, Saudi Arabia as a merchant.
No one knows why Islam was created: was it a valid spiritual experience, was it to civilize the Arabs? Or, was it to complete with Judaism and Christianity, to be a strong arm for the Vatican or to partake in capitalism and the wealth creation?
The association with Islam today for most people is the war that has been going on in the Middle East for the past generation and it seems to be getting worse. But not only that, terrorist groups like ISIL and Al Shebab are

A message to friends of India
Aum Shri Sathguruve Namaha Aum Shri Pritviyai Namaha Aum Adi Yogishwaraya Namaha
Sarasvati by Amit Bhar via arjuna-vallabha
Depending on one’s perception in looking at India today, one may cry for the suffering or laugh because it is all an act, a play of illusion. We must remember that this life is a dream but in the words of my dear Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev and other great yogis, the dream is real.
To understand this leela, this drama, one must either look to the beginning of the nation or to the heart of one’s being. The heart of one’s own being can only be accessed

The search for social equity
The search for social justice and equity is an important topic and it was the motivation the establishment of democracy and various ‘isms’. (Please note this has nothing to do with the democracy perpetrated by the USA which is a form of fascism).
So in thinking about how we should organise ourselves, we must look to how we organised ourselves in the past and even look to the social arrangements of some animal societies.
Let’s take elephants for instance. Like most groups of mammals, they have a matriarchal society and present similar emotions and intelligence as human beings. We have seen through human interference that the absence of older males (that are typically killed by

Corruption is an inevitability in this social structure of ours
One friend has asked, “There is so much corruption, so much bribery, so much favoritism going on in the present capitalism! Do you support this as well? This bribery, this corruption, this favoritism is not because of capitalism. Its causes are entirely different. They have nothing to do with capitalism.
If a country where there is so much poverty can be without corruption, that will be a miracle. That is not possible. Honest people in a place where it is so difficult to survive is a difficult proposition. Yes, a rare honest individual may exist. Some man of real will may exist. But all don’t have that much will power

Civilisations with some exceptions characteristically take thousands of years to evolve, but then they literally vanish overnight. We can think of Persia, Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, Rome and even the Soviet Union.
These empires grew through inspired leadership and yet they fell because they were built on an unstable foundation. If we take Rome as an example, it ruled from England to Persia and as it began to fall apart the Emperor of the time instituted Christianity in a last-ditch effort to save the Empire.
The fall of these civilisations was no doubt assisted by natural disasters and climate change. We know that the people of the Nile Valley migrated there between 4000 and 6000 years ago as the

But how to change?
It is all very well and good to poke fun at past and current administrations and institutions, but we must also remember that they too are victims of circumstance. It is well known that suffering stems from ignorance and that suffering perpetuates further suffering.
We need to wise up to the mistakes of the past and yet somehow be compassionate even towards prime ministers who look after their rich mates and impoverish the majority who are largely confused and struggling just to survive.
The real question is how do we extract ourselves from this social and economic quagmire?
Clearly Reaganomics is a disaster and we cannot see New Zealand’s situation as being separate from the world

Politicians dream and populations suffer
The Russian pilot shot down over Syria by what may turn out to be just a trigger-happy Turkish pilot claims that they were well clear of Turkish airspace and not given any warning before being shot at.
When the Russians began their anti-terrorist campaign in Syria a month or so ago, a Russian jet actually crossed into Turkish airspace for a few seconds we did not bother the Turks at all, but within hours after pressure from NATO and the US administration, the Turks changed their tune.
Now that Russia and the US have cut off the cheap oil deliveries from Syria to Turkey, the Turks are really annoyed because now they have to

Water Filtration & Purification – What system do you need?
An alpine river in New Zealand, but unsafe to drink from
Our bodies are about 50% water and while we can live for a month without food, we can only survive two or three days without water.
Most people regard access to clean water as a human right however the corporations that rule the world see water as a commodity and therefore people have no rights.
Most city dwellers must pay for water and the quality of that water is dubious. It possibly contains fluoride, chlorine and other contaminants which can be detrimental to peoples health.
There was a time when it was safe to drink from

The end of an era
Democracy was invented to give people self-determination and our recent ancestors fought two world wars that we should not be enslaved by tyranny, however our leadership is doing its utmost to consign us into submission to the corporations.
With an agreement being reached by government representatives of the participating countries, the agreement must be ratified before the TTP comes into effect.
Despite the objection by many thousands of people in New Zealand, this is looking more and more like a done deal and we will have to reconsider our fate.
So what does the TTPA represent?
For a small group of large corporations, this opens the door to freer trade and increased profitability.

2015 is sliding by
Some things do not really change, the rich are getting richer and the numbers of poor growing. Social injustice seems very secure as the status quo in the world seems unchanging.
As has been happening for a long time, new green energy like cars that run on water and other technologies threaten the dominance of the oil industry are suppressed. Similarly big Pharma still rules, but perhaps there are some cracks in the system as medical marijuana is being used more widely and Tesla motors looks set to shake up the energy market.
Organic food production is growing slowly as those who can afford the luxury support the producers, but unfortunately the majority must live on
