Raising teens – poetry

Published on: 1 Apr 2015, updated May 30 2018

My son came home from school one day, With a smirk upon his face. He decided he was smart enough, to put me in my place.

‘Guess what I learned in Civics Two, that’s taught by Mr. Wright? It’s all about the laws today, The ‘Children’s Bill of Rights.’

It says I need not clean my room, don’t have to cut my hair No one can tell me what to think, or speak, or what to wear.

I have freedom from religion, and regardless what you say, I don’t have to bow my head, and I sure don’t have to pray.

I can wear earrings if I

Sex Before Kissing

A new and dangerous social paradigm

Nice kiss by couplenotes/Tumblr

While sex without kissing for the most part throughout human history has been the prerogative of the soldier/rapist who were typically all men and sex workers who are typically women, sex without kissing was once very rare. A kiss is coming together in intimacy in many forms, it’s a declaration of acceptance, trust and affection, and often times used to convey a progression towards deeper intimacy.

Of course there are times when lovers come together with such intense desire that they forgo kissing, but the increasing openness of society in terms of knowledge that is often distorted, and the ease of the Internet that is saturated with Continue reading Sex Before Kissing

A conversation recorded

My sister Ciara and her friend Sandy were a little bored as they sat watching the rain running down the windows. I’d just stacked fire and I think they’d forgotten I was still there doing some homework, but it was hard not to hear what they were saying and this is some of their conversation.

Sandy: what is it about men Ciara? You know I quite like Alfie, in many ways he’s really nice and I feel strongly attracted to him but he’s really useless at sex.

Ciara: unfortunately I kinda know what you mean because most of the boys I’ve been with just please themselves and sometimes I just can’t be bothered having sex because I’m

A Lack of Sleep

A basic human need

We have not even noticed that the cause behind all many illnesses and disorders of our lives may be a lack of sleep and the amount and quality of sleep has changed with the development of human civilization.

From the day man discovered artificial light, sleep has become very troubled and as more and more gadgets fall into our hands, the quality of sleep continues to change. There was a time when people spent 6 to 8 hours per night in total darkness, but with all the modern gadgetry we have today, few bedrooms are completely dark due to the number of LED lights that run 24 seven.

But others think sleep is unnecessary and too

Wet Dreams

Nocturnal emissions

Wet Dreams are generally defined as erotic dreams that culminate in orgasm and/or ejaculation for boys. They are a normal part of life and experienced by almost every boy growing through puberty and may continue through adulthood, girls have similar experiences.

It is generally believed that most all teenagers and young adults have wet dreams from time to time and this is a normal and healthy part of life. If you are at all concerned about your wet or erotic dreams, don’t be because they are a normal part of life, but unfortunately like the confusion around sex and other aspects of life we don’t understand, it’s not often talked about.

As a parent, you need to understand

A Teenage Misery

A disease or a stage in life development?

Most teenagers have some acne for a few years off and on. However, adults in their 20’s, even into their 40’s or older, can get occasional acne. While not a life threatening condition, acne heals quickly in most people.

Acne is an inflammatory skin condition whereby the tiny pores through which the hairs emerge from the skin become blocked and infected causing the characteristic “black heads” and “white heads”. It is through these pores that the skin normally breathes and eliminates waste products from the body as an oil excreted by the sebaceous gland.

Physiologically male hormones found in both males and females rise during

Borrowing the car

A teenage boy had just passed his driving test and inquired of his father as to when they could discuss his use of the car.

His father said he’d make a deal with his son: ‘You bring your grades up from a C to a B average, study your Bible a little, and get your hair cut. Then we’ll talk about the car.’

The boy thought about that for a moment, decided he’d settle for the offer, and they agreed on it.

After about six weeks his father said, ‘Son, you’ve brought your grades up and I’ve observed that you have been studying your Bible, but I’m disappointed you haven’t had your hair cut.

The boy said, ‘You know, Dad,

Delightful Neighbours

Promiscuity in times of depression

The age of consent for sexual activity in the UK is 16 and other countries have set the legal age at anything from 12 to 20 although in some Islamic countries girls as young as 4 are often raped and can be married at age 8 or 9. In ancient cultures, girls were usually married soon after they reached puberty.

After being laid off, my misfortune was softened by a nice severance package and I moved south because I figured it would save on heating and other expenses. I had enough to buy myself quite a nice house, but I had to buy at the low end of the market.

After moving
