The Power of Mushrooms

A super food

Delicious button mushrooms

Mushrooms and toadstools are the flowering and reproductive parts of a fungi that lives underground. Their roots can spread over great distances and while some mushrooms and toadstools are poisonous, many a delicious and make a nice addition to our meals.

There is another class of mushrooms which are labelled as magic or psychedelic, when these are ingested they induce altered states of consciousness and the people don't know what they are doing, the consequences can be fatal.

You can buy mushrooms in most vegetable markets, these are typically grown in large dark warehouses, but they also may be collected from fields typically in the spring and autumn when the climatic conditions are suited.

Fresh mushrooms will cook up within a few minutes. But first they need rinse under the tap to make sure there is no dirt sticking to them and they do not have to be peeled even though some people do. You can also buy mushrooms from Asian food shops which are generally dried and these will need soaking, some for a few minutes and others almost all day before they are cooked. They are generally high in nutrition and they make a healthy addition to any diet.

Mushrooms are low in Saturated Fat and Sodium, and very low in Cholesterol. They are a good source of Dietary Fiber, Protein, Vitamin C, Folate, Iron, Zinc and Manganese, and a very good source of Vitamin D, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, Vitamin B6, Pantothenic Acid, Phosphorus, Potassium, Copper and Selenium. Not all mushrooms are equal and different species will have different nutritional values.

It may seem surprising, but some people simply don't like mushrooms or are averse to eating them. There is no problem with this because by and large there will be some underlying factor and those individuals are simply responding to their bodies likes and dislikes.

There are also some people who maybe allergic to mushrooms and they need to leave them out of their diet. Some children who have mushroom allergies will disappear as they grow older. Anyone with a mushroom allergy will likely also be allergic to other fungi, moulds and yeasts.

Magic mushrooms

You really must be careful with these otherwise you might wind up dead. It within most communities there are people who know about these things and even in some universities there are specialist scientists who are studying the psychoactive properties of mushrooms.

Magic mushrooms have been used for countless generations to induced other states of mind and spiritual connection. Typically the Shamen would take the mushrooms which would enable him to predict certain events or explain certain phenomena, but sometimes they would be used as part of an initiation ritual or even collective psychic experiences.

Because magic mushrooms open the windows of perception, they most often leave people with a greater respect and appreciation for life. This is the healthy use and they should be not be mixed with alcohol or other intoxicants.

There are also branches of medical science exploring these substances as potential cures for depression and what is loosely defined as mental health problems. These substances can be quite strong and they lift people out of their mood. When the experience is positive, people are less depressed afterwards, but extreme care must be taken by people who are depressed because the psychoactive ingredients may be too strong and have the reverse of a desired effect.

6 Ways Mushrooms Can Save The World

In 2006 a patent was granted to a man named Paul Stamets. Even though Paul is the world’s leading mycologist, his patent has received very little attention and exposure. Why? As stated by executives in the pesticide industry, this patent represents “the most disruptive technology we have ever witnessed.” And when they say disruptive, they are referring to it being disruptive to their chemical pesticides industry.

We can no longer deny that the pesticide industry is causing incredibly detrimental effects to the earth, people, animals, plants & insects too. The rapid decline of the world’s bee populations is being attributed to Monsanto’s chemical concoctions that are being sprayed over farmers fields around the world. (Though the number of countries who have kicked out & banned Monsanto is growing) The use of chemical pesticides is a practice that absolutely must stop and new methods must be employed before it’s too late.

Yet with Monsanto generating nearly $16 BILLION dollars in 2014, they certainly do not want anything getting in the way of that money flow. That kind of revenue gives them a lot of resources and abilities to suppress information that may be damaging to them.

Like this patent of Paul Stamet’s. Paul has figured out how to use mother nature’s own creations to keep insects from destroying crops. It is what’s being called SMART pesticides. These biopesticides provide a safe & nearly permanent solution for controlling over 200,000 species of insects, and it is all thanks to the ‘magic’ of mushrooms.

I won’t go into the specifics of how it all works, for most of us won’t really understand it anyway, but to summarize, he does this by taking entomopathogenic Fungi (fungi that destroys insects) and morphs it into not producing spores. This in turn actually attracts the insects who then eat and turn into fungi from the inside out!

For those who do want to do their own further reseach on the topic, I have provided a list of links below to help you along.

As more people wake up to the damaging effects of Monsanto’s chemicals & GMO foods, the demand for truly nutritious, pesticide free, non-gmo, organic foods is on the rise. We are seeing more community gardens & urban forests being created. More people are starting to grow food, not lawns. Permaculture is becoming more widely talked about and understood. There is a major paradigm shift happening right now as our collective consciousness expands and awakens.

These truly are exciting, monumental times we live in. We are seeing old world ways crumble and power structures fall as we wake up and step up to collectively create a more healthy and sustainable way of working, living & playing together on this planet. The time has come. We can do this!
