The worlds oldest science

We do know not how long mankind has been walking the earth, but it seems reasonable to presume that mankind has always had a healthy 'self interest'. But once basic survival is taken care of, what is one to do with this self-interest?

In recent history we have mapped the universe and dissected almost everything on this planet as we try to figure out what to do with life. Unfortunately doing stuff undermines the fact that we are human beings and we are here to be healthy, to be happy and to be joyful or even blissful.

Most people are happy enough if they experience a few transient pleasures and if you look at the world today you can see how drastically things are going wrong. Happiness is only being created for a small elite who are imposing suffering on the majority which is a very unhealthy way to live.

Yoga is a technological solution to become more fully human

Yoga is not a religion and it does not require any beliefs, all that is required is a sincere desire to know one'self. For a very determined person this desire alone is enough as it will steer them along that inward journey towards self-realisation and enlightenment.

It is well known amongst yogis that the only way out (freedom from suffering) is found by turning and looking inwards. No one has ever found enlightenment and blissfulness by looking outwards. No one is ever achieved complete freedom from suffering by taking any drugs, this can only be achieved by turning inwards.

The path of yoga

Yoga practices have evolved to directly address the root cause of suffering in this world. At the present time, the level of suffering is huge and the physicality of human beings has become very weak. As a consequence one of the foundation practices is referred to as hatha yoga.

Hatha yoga is a system of physical exercises and practices that condition the body, making it stronger, more flexible and more adaptive to life. Unfortunately some people's bodies are so badly damaged that this practice presents considerable challenges, but with proper guidance people can recover.

A refinement within hatha yoga are the breathing exercises which help to heal and strengthen the central nervous system and when the body and breath are stable, meditation becomes a central practice.

Meditation is about becoming still within your own mind and comfortable within your own inner space. By looking inwards, external sense perception goes into a restful state allowing the mind to relax.

This internal relaxation is very rewarding as it begins to provide insight and elementary wisdom. The actual journey in consciousness is described in Patanjali's yoga sutras, however that text is only decipherable when one has achieved a certain level of practice.

Yoga is the only solution

The misplaced desires and actions of mankind have reached a point where the planetary environment that we depend on for our continued existence is being destroyed. A great many species have gone extinct under our watch and yet they were all part of an eco-system that we depend on.

Science has dissected most living things, corporations have capitalised much of the planet and its resources, and religions at best only bring a temporary piece to their followers. (Hinduism and Buddhism are not religions).

In summary; yoga is a system of systems which when applied, improves health and fitness, creates self awareness and inner peace. However it is only by developing this inner peace that one is able to understand the nature of life and participate in living in a more positive way.

  • Yoga stabilises the body in preparation for meditation
  • Yoga works to improve primary health and fitness, and it helps to harness the powers of the mind.
  • Yoga is an internationally renowned and respected discipline and it is the companion to Ayurveda.
  • Many physiotherapies, pilates, and exercise systems have been adapted from yoga exercise.

For countless generations people have looked to God's for their salvation, but humanity like the world's economic system is rapidly degrading.  If we wish to survive as a species, it's time we stopped and looked inside ourselves, sorted out our own shit and let go of everything that does not serve the greater good.
