A cactus plant from South Africa that has the weight-loss crowd thrilled by providing a natural organic pill that kills the appetite and attacks obesity.

From the sandy expanses of the Kalahari Desert intrepid businessmen bring a cactus called Hoodia. This small prickly cactus grows to about 400cm tall and has been used for hundreds of years by the Kalahari bushmen to keep hunger at bay during long hunting trips and in times of drought.

South African scientists have discovered the plant contains a previously unknown molecule, which they have named P57. P57has an effect which is about 10,000 times as active as glucose and it's effect is to make anyone taking it feel as though they were full. Some users also say that it has a mild euphoric and aphrodisiac effect.

Initial research on rats and humans has proved successful although more extensive clinical tails have yet to be done, but Hoodia Gordonii is now being marketed by the pharmaceutical giant Pfizer Corporation and Hoodia-based pills are now available which contain dried and processed hoodia powder or concentrates.

Weight loss experts are already excited over the avenues opened by this plant that curbs hunger. Is this the thing that could help millions of overweight people display bodies to die for? Maybe, just maybe, this is the magic pill we've all been waiting for to assist in keeping our bodies in shape.
